Messages and files in Mesh are not chat.
They’re how we keep the job clean:
- the right file in the right place
- the decision written down
- the hold cleared the right way
Where files live (there is no “Files” tab)
On an order page, files show up in a few places:
- Inside each part under Original uploaded art files
- In Message Center → Messages (attachments show up in the timeline)
- Inside Action required flows (receiving / pack‑out decisions)
So if you’re looking for a “Files” tab… it doesn’t exist.

Uploading files on drafts (and right after submit)
Drafts are the easiest time to manage files.
Drafts
- You can add proof/art files to each part.
- You can also remove files from parts (draft-only).
Submitted orders (short edit window)
After you submit, there’s still a short window where you can add files to parts.
- You can still add part Proof file(s) / Artwork file(s) during the edit window.
- You cannot remove previously uploaded files after submit.
If you need to replace something after submit:
- simply upload the new file within the edit window (20 mins)
- request an order hold if outside the edit window. message us: Ex. Use
filename_v2.ai— ignore the old one
Messaging is gated (and that’s on purpose)
You won’t always see a message box.
In normal day-to-day jobs (no holds), Mesh doesn’t run like an always-on messenger.
When you can message
You’ll see messaging open up when the job needs something:
- a hold is active (art / pre‑production / production)
- an Action required panel is present
- a decision has been submitted and follow-up messaging is enabled (receiving / pack‑out)
When you won’t see a message box
Common cases:
- No hold → no generic composer on the order page
- Receiving-only hold → messaging happens on Receiving report
- Pack‑out discrepancy → you must submit the decision first, then follow-up messaging appears
Rule of thumb:
If you don’t see a message box, look for Reports → Receiving report / Pack‑out report or an Action required panel.
Message Center (order page)
On the order page, messaging lives in:
Message Center → Messages
When it’s available, you’ll see:
- Send a message to the shop
- This message is about: (pick the right part if you can)
- Attachments → + Add file
Use “This message is about” correctly
- If it’s about one print, pick the part.
- If it affects the whole order, use All parts (order‑wide).
This keeps the timeline readable and reduces back-and-forth.
Uploading revised artwork (during holds)
When art is on hold, Mesh will show a per‑part upload form in Message Center:
- Upload revised artwork for …
- Upload revised artwork
That upload is per part (not order-wide).
What to do:
- Open the order
- Scroll to Message Center
- Find the Upload revised artwork for … section
- Upload the revised file
- Add one clear sentence: what changed + what to use
Example message:
- “Uploaded
client_leftchest_v3.ai— use this file. Size unchanged.”
See the Holds section of this guide for more details on holds.
What files should you upload?
Mesh doesn’t enforce strict file types everywhere (yet) so don’t treat it like a dumping ground.
Upload what helps the job move forward:
- revised artwork (when asked)
- proof files (png preferred)
- PO confirmations / screenshots (when it impacts receiving/replacements)
- return labels (when returning items)
If you’re unsure, upload the smallest thing that makes the decision obvious:
a screenshot + a one-line instruction.
The one rule that prevents most mistakes
When you upload something, always include the decision in plain English:
- “Use this file.”
- “Ignore the old one.”
- “Proceed and ship short.”
- “Reprint — replacement PO is ___.”
That’s it. That’s how jobs move fast.
